About Le MELois
I am a social scientist by training, but I've always been curious and eager to learn things that didn't always fall within the scope of my formal education. I've managed to teach myself new things and develop new skills thanks to the vast knowlege that exists online. I am very conscious of the value and positive impact that online content — such as blogs, videos, and forums — can have in democratizing learning.
Over the years, I taugh myself new skills in the field of graphic design, web development, data analysis, and programming. Recently, Linux and Rust have caught my attention, so I started applying the techniques mentioned below, to learn Rust and improve my Linux skills.
Based on my own experience, I've learned that a practical way to teach yourself new skills and acquire knowlege is through "learning by doing." In other words, you can learn new things by:
- doing online research
- documenting your findings and drawing conclusions
- and applying the acquired knowledge in the forms of small and evolving projects
With that in mind, the aims of these blog are :
- a way to document my own experience in learning Linux and Rust
- to share knowledge in a way that is easy to access and understand
- and thus contribute to the democratization of learning
I hope that the blog will contribute to the learning of all the individuals out there, who like me, have a curious and wondering mind and who are interested in learning new things on their own.
On a final note, as an English-speaker who has been living for the last six year in the MEL in France, I realized that online content related to Linux, programming and other computer related fields is predominantly in English. I've decied to write the blog also in French, which is my very very small contribution to make knowledge more diverse and accessible, and at the same time continue to improve my French.
You can access the French version of the blog here.
